Mr. Lawrence Araya came to our facility a couple of months ago after a short stay at the hospital. Over some time, Mr. Araya had steadily been declining, resulting in severe weight loss. By the time he came to our facility, he was on a PEG, was very confused, not able to follow commands, and was not walking. Through excellent care from our nursing department and therapy, Mr. Araya became stable and has demonstrated excellent progress. You can see him now walking around the facility with a big smile on his face as he greets staff and other residents. He has become more and more independent with all his activities of daily life. An avid reader, Mr. Araya is now able to read his books and engage in conversation with family and others. He actively participates in activities and is learning how to play poker. He was NPO when he first arrived and now he has been upgraded to mech soft. Mr. Araya celebrated his 87th birthday a week ago and we all celebrated with him. This birthday was a very special one because he was able to have his chocolate cake, and eat it too. We celebrated in the rehab gym along with nursing, quality of life and our administrator. Happy Birthday, Mr. Araya!
