Signature HealthCARE (SHC) of Brookwood Gardens participated in a coordinated prayer event on Thursday, May 5, joining millions of other Americans to recognize what has been designated as the National Day of Prayer. The prayer day event coincided with a celebration of El Cinco deMayo, complete with a Mariachi band performance.
SHC of Brookwood Gardens is one of 72 nursing communities in seven states operated by Louisville, Ky.-based Signature HealthCARE. On Thursday, each building held a prayer, some releasing biodegradable balloons or carrying out other symbolic acts. An event at Signature’s Louisville headquarters was transmitted via live webcast. “It’s a big honor for me to lead a company with a focus on interfaith spirituality,” said Signature President and CEO E. Joseph Steier, III. “We never want to push any kind of religion on our employees. We just want to give them time for themselves, to worship as they believe and have time for rlection.”
For Signature, the event highlighted a key part of the company’s mission, which embraces spirituality in all forms, faiths, cultures and traditions. The synchronized event was carried out under the theme of ‘Endless Hope,’ in an effort to remind participants of the challenges’ they face and bind them together as group. Residents were also welcomed to participate.”Perhaps most precious to our people is the collective power of prayer,” said Dianrte Timmerin! Vice President of Spirituality for Signature. “It is most simply to love one another, in the trenches of someone’s life When brokenness needs the hope of someone else, where faith is sewn into the distresses of others, where the bounty of prayer begins the healing of one, for the healing of us all.”
A week prior to the event, the White House released President Barack Obama’s Presidential Proclamation marking the 60th annual observance of the Nation Day of Prayer. In the proclamation, the President says, “Throughout our history, Americans have turned to prayer for strength, inspiration, and solidarity. Prayer has played an important role in the American story and in shaping our Nation’s leaders.”
